Born in 1420 c.e. Hakham Basyatchi wrote the
"Fundamentals of the Law" over a thirty year span in
which he wrote: "Karaite tradition, however, is
not like the tradition believed in by the Rabbinates,
since the latter add to and subtract from Scripture and
say that tradition overcomes the written biblical text,
notwithstanding that Scripture says expressly: "Ye shall
not add unto the word which I have commanded you.
(Devarim [Deut.] 4:2] If their intention is to
merely interpret the prophetic utterances, it is not
seemly for them to say that tradition overcomes the
written biblical text." . |
