Welcome to KJU
We welcome you
with the words of our prophet Isaiah (Yeshayahu) who said:
Also the
stranger, that join themselves to
יְהוָה to
minister unto Him, and to love the name of
יְהוָה, to be His
servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from profaning it,
and holdeth fast by My covenant
- Even them
will I bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My
house of prayer; their burnt-offerings and their sacrifices
shall be acceptable upon Mine altar; for My house shall be
called a house of prayer for all peoples.
"Converting to Judaism is an extraordinary
journey- a process of study, experimentation, growth, and self-discovery unlike
virtually any other experience."
Anita Diamant, Choosing a Jewish Life
Choosing Karaite Judaism means taking yourself outside the mainstream of
both Jewish and American culture and into a parallel universe, where time moves
according to Biblical cyclical rhythm of the appointed seasons by observation of
the new crescent moon, the identification of barley in Israel as it reaches the
stage in its ripeness called Abib so that the Biblical year can begin, and where
familiar words have different meanings, where spirituality infuses daily life
through blessings for every occasion.
First a word
on our Creator’s name: Although it is translated in different
manners, it is
always the same in Hebrew:
יְהוָה
The slogan that God “Alone is Saviour, Accept No
Imitations!” is attributed to Karaite Sage Mordecai Alfandari,
who fought tirelessly to inform the world of the one true God.
The internet has afforded a the oldest modern
movement
of Jews, known by its current name – Karaites - a means by which to reach
out to the rest of the world, in order to educate others about Judaism, as
it is prescribed in the Hebrew Bible. We are here both for our fellow Jews[1]
who are seeking a more authentic and meaningful Jewish
experience, and in the tradition of Ruth[2]
to reach out and welcome
sincere converts to Judaism. This Online Guide will introduce
both Jews and Gentiles to a Jewish movement that represents what
its
proponents believe to be the most accurate form of Judaism
that is capable of being practiced today, both in the diaspora
and in Israel. At the conclusion of this course, a Introduction
to Judaism certificate will be issued to gentiles and upon approval by the
Council of Sages, a live
conversion ceremony will be conducted.
[1] Jews freely may change their affiliation from
one branch of Judaism to another, of course, and when a Jew does
so, this is not considered a conversion. However, to live
as a Karaite, one must follow the basic precepts found in the
Bible.

[2]. Ruth was a Moabite woman who converted to Judaism and became
the great-grandmother of King David.
